What is a Transformation?
What is a Transformation?
Summary
- In a reflection, we flip a figure over a line of reflection to create a mirror image
- The new figure that is created after any transformation is called the image
- In a translation, we slide or move a figure to a new location in the coordinate plane
- In a dilation, we increase or decrease the size of the original figure
- In a rotation, we rotate a figure around a point in the coordinate plane

Notes
-
-
-
-
- The line of reflection is the line we flip the figure over
- In our example, the line of reflection is the x-axis
-
- The image is the figure we get after performing ANY transformation, not just reflections
-
- Translations can be horizontal slides, vertical slides, or a combination of the two
-
-
- In our example, we are rotating the figure 90 degrees around the origin
