What is a Ray?
What is a ray?
Summary
- A ray starts at a point and extends forever in one direction without ending
- The arrowhead on the line means that it should go on forever in that direction
- The point where the ray starts is called the 'endpoint'
- The point 'S' is an endpoint
- The name of a ray should always start with the endpoint, and have a little arrow above the name pointing to the right
- TS is not a name for our ray because T is not the endpoint
- The arrow above the name of the ray should always point to the right
- 'P' is an endpoint
- 'G' is an endpoint
- The ray is labeled GI because G is the endpoint and because I is a point on the ray

Notes
-
- The point that the ray starts at is called the 'endpoint'
-
- There are a few more rules to naming rays than naming lines or line segments!
-
- The endpoint is where the ray begins
- The point 'S' is an endpoint
- The point 'T' is also on the ray, closer to the arrowhead
- The arrow above the two points must always point to the right
-
-
- The name of a ray must start with the endpoint but just has to include another point on the ray
- You would usually see this ray called GI, but calling it GH wouldn't be wrong
