How do you find the total displacement for a round trip?

You decide to run 4 laps at your favorite track. If the track looks like a circle with a radius of 200 feet then what is the total displacement after you run 4 laps.

Summary

  1. Here's a diagram of our 4 laps around the track
  2. r- radius
  3. ft- feet
  4. You start and stop at the same position (the starting line)

Notes

    1. d with an arrow- displacement vector
    2. xfinal- the final position
    3. xinitial- the initial position
    1. xfinal- final position
    2. xinitial- initial position
    3. In round trip problems the initial and final positions are the same position!
    1. d with an arrow- displacement vector
    2. xfinal- the final position
    3. Here we've plugged in xfinal for xinitial
    1. d with an arrow- displacement vector
    2. Remember from now on that roundtrips have zero displacement!
