What's a Solution to a System of Linear Equations?
Definition: Solution to a System of Equations
Summary
- If a system has two unknowns, then the solution can be represented as an ordered pair of variables!
- These two equations make up a system of equations with two variables (x and y)
- Solving for 'x' and 'y' gives us x=2 and y=2, or the ordered pair (2,2)
- We can prove this ordered pair is the solution of the system by plugging x=2 and y=2 into each equation

Notes
-
- Ordered pairs contain two variables and that's why they can represent the solutions to a system of two equations. If you have more than two equations, then you'll need more than an ordered pair!
-
- These two equations make up a system of equations
- There are a few different methods to solve this system of equations, and you can see some in the links below!
